Ball Throwers Fracture of the humerus

Ball-Thrower's Fracture of the Humerus These radiographs reveal a mildly displaced, comminuted spiral fracture at the distal diaphysis of the left humerus with an associated butterfly fragment. The patient, a healthy recreational athlete with no prior arm pains, described making an off-balanced but forceful throw that was accompanied by a loud snapping noise. Michael N. Colapinto, Emil H. Bilateral Femur Fractures

This 82 year old lady slipped and fell while she was pushing her shopping cart across an icy parking lot. She was unable to get up from her fall and was taken to hospital. In the emergency room, she complained of pain in both legs. She was neurovascularly intact, had deformities of both thighs, and there were no open injuries. Examination of both hips, ankles, and feet were normal. The pelvis was stable and nontender. Radiographs were obtained after splinting her legs (below).

Castro, MD, Carlos Duchesne, MD, Timothy Cleary, MD Abstract Following a motorcycle accident, a 29-year-old man had fixation of a femoral fracture with an intramedullary rod. After he was discharged, the wound deteriorated rapidly and did not improve despite multiple debridements and antibiotic therapy. Apophysomyces elegans grew on cultures, and treatment with amphotericin B was followed by healing and plastic reconstruction.

Now he is in panic because they are going to remove the nail and perform plating.
